Protecting Yourself: To prevent HIV, you need to avoid contact with blookd, semen, or vaginal fluids. There are several ways to protect yourself. They are as follows:
-Abstinence: Not having sex (vaginal, anal or oral) is the best way to prevent sexual transmission of HIV. Alcohol lowers self-control. If you drink, you may change your mind about being abstinent.
-Monogamy: Having only 1 sexual partner is also safe. Your partner not have HIV, have sex with anyone but you, or share needles of any kind.
-Condoms: Use a latex condom correctly every time you have sex. Drinking can cause you to be careless so the condom breaks or slips, or to have sex without using protection.
-Not sharing needles: Sharing needles to inject drugs (or for tattooing, piercing or and other reason), or having sex with someone who shares needles, puts you at high risk for HIV. If you drink, you may get careless.
